So what is beauty??
I have to say I had to look this word up in the dictionary to fine its true definition and here it is " the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shapes, color, sounds etc.) , a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest)" Which by the way, really isn't a definitive description yet we are all able to apply the label beauty to things and make reference to things that are not beautiful as ugly.
Insane really, as according to the dictionary description, we really dont have a definitive measure on what beauty really is other than "it brings pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind".
So why do we use this word to define people and in some cases make people feel inferior.
Just lately I have been thinking about this word "beauty" and I'm not sure if it's because we are becoming increasingly visual consumer driven generation or if it's because the opposite to beauty is almost guaranteed to be referenced to as "ugly". Ugly being the term to describe "not beautiful" For me personally, this is a word I really want to understand, as this topic is so over publicised and in my opinion it has become such a fabricated term that has countless people driving themselves into a endless pool of insecurities, for a word that seems simply ambiguous by nature and to be frank, not really definitive enough to hold such power, yet it does!!
So why does it really hold such power?
And I do mean power, so much so that people are very much willing to completely sacrifice their individuality to look like a clone of someone else just because they are considered "beautiful" Or in some cases the power to make people feel unworthy of their individuality for the fear of being judged or labelled as "ugly"
What is that really about...
How has this become such a dominate trend among women? The fear of "ugly" to be clear " non beauty" aka individuality, a person that is happy to look like themselves (again my opinion). We have become so fixated with this term "beauty" or "beautiful" that people are almost scared of being themselves. So scared to the point that they cant even look at themselves in the mirror, because who's staring back at them isn't on the front of Glamour, or hasn't been airbrushed and photoshoped, to the point of them becoming unrecogonisable(even to their own family). And I guess this is when the fear kicks in, fear of being different and then in walks the judgement, followed by the criticism, ending with endless negativity about your body and how it should look. Crazy and all of this feeling and uncertainty, is based on this 6 letter word called "BEAUTY"
But just suppose for one minute, just one minute! we didn't do that too ourselves and we certainly didn't do that too each other. Suppose we started to actually love ourselves and appreciated ourselves for being who we are. And imagine if we started to recognise that in this imperfect world we are perfect, just the way we are. Could we then "bring pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind" therefore perhaps we could become the term "beauty or known as "beautiful"
Imagine what that would do for the next generation of young women.
So I ask you this , Do you dare to be truly beautiful, just the way you are????
